nobilia North America Kitchen Remodel: Blending Modern Functionality with Warehouse Charm

Simplicity and Subtlety in Design

When it comes to kitchen remodels, striking a balance between modern functionality and the unique charm of your space is crucial. This was precisely the challenge faced by a couple living in an old warehouse built in 1910, featuring high ceilings, exposed brickwork, and concrete pillars and floors. Their goal was to create a kitchen that embraced clean lines and contemporary convenience while preserving the energy and allure of their loft-style living. In this blog post, we’ll explore the design choices and insights behind their stunning nobilia European kitchen remodel.

The homeowners have always favored a simple style, incorporating plenty of reclaimed woods and grayscale with subtle pops of color from plants and throw pillows. To ensure their nobilia kitchen remodel aligned with their aesthetic vision, they sought a design that would seamlessly blend with the warehouse atmosphere without overpowering it.

The homeowners went with nobilia’s EasyTouch 961 Graphite Black Ultra Matte paired with Havana Oak Reproduction.  The dark graphite, straight-lined kitchen convinces with the appealing interplay of materials in dark hues and thus creates a cozy atmosphere, where you will enjoy spending a lot of time. The dark matte fronts have an innovative coating – so fingerprints don’t stand a chance.

Verticality for Optimal Storage

Storage was a top priority for the couple, who spent a significant amount of time cooking, baking, and entertaining. By taking advantage of the high ceilings and going vertical with their cabinets (measuring an impressive 104 inches), they maximized storage space while maintaining an open and airy feel. Extending the cabinets across the entire width of the kitchen wall allowed for a generously sized pantry, capable of housing large appliances, mixing bowls, dough bins, various baking supplies, and an expansive coffee setup.

Parry Mist Gray Tiles: A Timeless Spanish Influence

The couple desired a touch of Spanish influence in their kitchen remodel, inspired by their frequent travels to Spain. However, they opted for a more subtle approach rather than bold colors or contrasting Spanish hydraulic tiles. After exploring various options, they discovered Parry Mist Gray tiles by Natucer Cerámica Natural. These unique tiles, with their fish scale inspiration and traditional yet distinctive design, struck the perfect balance between uniqueness and timelessness. The vertical installation of the tiles beautifully complemented the tall cabinets, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Glazed Tiles and Light Color Palette

Living in an open yet relatively small space, the homeowners sought finishes that would reflect light and brighten up the room. They chose glazed tiles over matte ones, allowing the tiles to reflect the natural light streaming in from their south-facing windows. Additionally, the light color of the tiles counteracted any visual weight the cabinets might have imposed on the space, creating a harmonious and open atmosphere.

TEC 941 Raven Grout: A Perfect Match

To complete the tile installation, the homeowners opted for TEC 941 Raven grout. The higher-quality grout not only offered durability but also featured a gray tone with just the right amount of warmth. This allowed it to blend seamlessly with nobilia’s Havana Oak reproduction in the upper cabinets, as well as match the veining in the counters and nobilia’s EasyTouch matte black cabinets where they met. With a 1/8″ grout line, they ensured the dark grout wouldn’t overpower the beauty of the tiles, maintaining a balanced and cohesive look.

LG Viatera Quartz – Rococo: Durability and Elegance

To achieve a seamless transition between their existing “French 72″ Large Kitchen Island” with a Carrara marble top and the rest of the kitchen, the homeowners opted for LG Viatera Quartz in the Rococo color. This quartz countertop offered the perfect blend of durability and elegance, providing a high-quality surface with low maintenance requirements. The Rococo color matched the Carrara marble and paired well with the matte black bases of the cabinets and island, contributing to a cohesive and visually pleasing design.

Functional Fixtures and Thoughtful Details

When it came to fixtures and appliances, the couple prioritized functionality and reliability. They selected a Delta faucet without any unnecessary fancy features, ensuring longevity and minimizing the risk of potential failures. For the sink, they chose a 27″ Delta Lorelai under-mount workstation sink, providing ample space for handwashing larger kitchen equipment. The sink’s built-in dish strainer allowed them to free up counter space for more efficient meal preparation.

A Coffee Corner as the Heart of the Kitchen

For this couple, coffee holds a special place in their daily routine, serving as the center of their mornings, afternoons, and even evenings. Their love for coffee inspired the creation of a dedicated coffee corner in the kitchen. As loyal La Marzocco fans, they owned a Linea Mini espresso machine and a Rocket Fausto espresso grinder for their standard espresso drinks. To accommodate their passion for pour-over coffee, they included an array of brewing methods and brewers on the shelf. Their Mahlkonig EK43 S grinder, specifically designed for pour-over brewing and single-dose shots of espresso, ensured a delightful coffee experience. Lastly, a Fellow Stagg EKG electric kettle completed their coffee setup, adding convenience and style to their daily rituals.

Harmonious and Welcoming Kitchen Environment

The nobilia kitchen remodel in this old warehouse showcases the harmonious integration of modern design and warehouse charm. The careful selection of materials, finishes, and fixtures allowed the homeowners to create a space that is functional, visually appealing, and true to their personal style. With the kitchen as the centerpiece of their lives, every decision was made with love and consideration, resulting in a welcoming and inspiring environment where they can cook, bake, entertain, and savor their favorite coffee moments.
